For the beginners class we went over a few different things:
Ready stance: Hachiji Dachi
Horse stance: Kiba Dachi

Getting up and down using the traditional sword drawing method to sit down in Sei-Za or getting back up (Tashi-Dachi)

For those of you that don’t know Dachi means stance.

From Kiba Dachi we went over 3 Punches:
1) Straight punch = (Chudan Zuki)
2) Vertical Fist punch (can-punch) = Tate Zuki
3) Upper Cut punch = Ura Zuki
We also went over the 4 parts of the kick.
1) Chamber - get the leg up like the tennis ball is sitting on it
2) Extend it out and do the kick
3) Bring it back and keep it up in chamber.
4) Place it back down and get ready for the next kick.

The stance that we executed the front kick from was the ZEN or Zen-Kutsa Dachi.

Few tips: Bow when you come in or leave. Bring some water, be respectful to your senior students and instructors. Don’t horse around before class, and most importantly have fun.

ADVANCED CLASS: (6:45-8:00 pm)
Good to see all of you last night. For those of you that didn’t make it, hopefully you can make it next time. On Tuesday started off with my shadow warm up drill.

Did a few runs of the basic punches and blocks.
Ran Wan-su Kata

Went into kicking afterwards. For the kicks if you haven’t had a chance to come, please work on these:
1) Straight Driving front kick
2) Fake low round house, then execute and throw the round house kick.
3) Fake round, then side kick

We did some other bag work outs by having everyone rotate in line picking up different bags while other people were executing various techniques as they walk down the line.

Next we worked on high kicks and flying side kicks.

Finally we concluded with rolls over objects and a little stretching.

See you Thursday.
